Well hello everyone and welcome to my first official blog post. Hopefully I will be blogging about what I do and try and keep it interesting for everyone reading. For those who don’t know me my passion is live TV. My winters are spent driving up and down the QE2 from Edmonton and Calgary working NHL games. I work on the split (the visiting teams show) mostly which is nice because it is a different show every game. The best part about live tv is once it’s done it’s done. You can’t “fix it in post” there are no lets shoot it again it’s just over, your try and forget about any mistakes and move on. This passion for live TV leaves me on the road much of the winter since there is very little, if any, work in Red Deer. My goal is to change all of that and it started with the Health Election Forum put on by the Red Deer Primary Care Network.
I have been doing work for the RDPCN for a number of years and when they asked me to shoot their Health Care focused election forum and I just had to ask if we could stream the event. They said yes right away and I was to now figure out how the logistics of our webcast. The hardest part of getting the first webcast off the ground was figuring out how to get professional camera and production equipment to talk with the streaming provider interface without spending a lot (tens of thousands) of dollars. I spent a lot of nights reading and researching best practices and found a solution that worked.
Of course with the first of anything there is bound to be a few issues and with this there was. Even though we were hard wired and had a very good internet signal it kept dropping out during the Q & A. Once the signal came back we were back online. Overall the first webcast experience was very successful and I hope this is a service more businesses in Red Deer will use. There are many uses for webcasts including seminars, announcements, weddings, funerals any special event that you want the world (or other staff) to see. I hope you enjoyed my first post. Let me know what kind of things you are interested in with the TV world and I will try and blog about it. Click here to watch the PCN Health Care Election Forum.
